it is very obvious.  one of the softest parts of your body will suddenly get hard.  there has never been a time when i have not knowingly had an erection.  the only time i probably don't know is when i'm asleep. and even then i'm sure all guys get hard while asleep.  so unless i'm interpreting your question wrong... erections are very obvious

Ask your Dad to buy you a book called "What's Happening to My Body?".  Tell him it is written for teenagers and can be bought at all large book stores or on-line at amazon.com.  Ask him to check it out before buying it, if he is concerned about you having this book.

If you p***s (the thing you pee with) has gotten stiff and longer sometimes, that is an erection.  If it has not, don't worry -- some guys get these later than other guys.

It normally happens about the same time as your voice changes and you start getting hair around your p***s area, but it can happen earlier or later.

If you feel comfortable asking your Dad, ask him to explain.  Otherwise, just ask him to buy you the book.
