How do you know if you need to upgrade your TV for the digital conversion?

I have a Sony TV from about 2000. I don't currently have cable, just using rabbit ears. Do I need to order the converter, or are newer TV's already "digital?"

And if I do have to order the converter where can I get one?

Your TV from 2000 is proubaly not digital.  If you decide to get satelite TV you will not need a converter box.  You can buy a converter box that will go in between the antennas and the TV you can get one at Wal-Mart.  This would be much cheaper than buying a new TV.

any tv that uses bunny ears to get a signal will need a set top box to get the proper digital signals  You can get them at any tech store like best buy even at walmart, also if you need one you can get vouchers from the government to help pay for them *edit* I don't know about your last part of the question. You'd get any digital channels but I don't know if that kinda thing is compatible with BOTH signal sources...the only way to check is to ask who you're buying it from if that will get your current analog channels as well. I'm sure the people selling them know for sure. I found this link though that has what you need to request the voucher for the converters just in case you were curious  www.dtv2009.gov

you just wont be able to recieve a signal through those old analog rabbit ears of yours. The government will be offering $40 discount coupons for those DTV converter boxes and if you wait for a bit there is a company releasing converter boxes for well ...$40! so it makes it basicle free with the coupon. If you run a search for DTV converter boxes it should pull up everything you need to know.
