How do you know if your an alcoholic or you just like drinking?

I pretty much think you can consider yourself an alcoholic when you can't say no to a drink and you can't live without having one.

alcoholics have to go to those meetings, as long as you don't go to those meetings you are fine.

If you wake up in the morning and the first thing you grab instead of a cup of coffee is a can of beer or a few shots  of whiskey because you are "Craving" it and you claim that you cannot function through out the day unless you have a few or several "Drinks" in you then you are an Alcoholic  an alcoholic is Physically and Psychologically dependant on booze just like a herion addict is physically an psychologically dependant on that "Shot"

The difference is very subtle.  You really don't know you're an alcoholic until you try to cut down and have a big problem doing it.  

Try not to get in the habit of drinking every day, even if it's just for relaxation and enjoyment.  Few people start off as alcoholics, but having it every day can make it hard to stop without withdrawal symptoms.

Alcoholics drink no matter what time of day;

they drink by themselves;

if they are in public, they often will spike a drink w/ one of those little liquor bottles you can get, or just keep alcohol in a hidden flask;

they are constantly drunk; the alcohol interferes w/ their personal life;

they feel like they can't have a good time w/out alcohol;

and they have withdrawals when they don't have enough

the difference is so small that its unoticable, many alcoholics pass that fine line without ever realising it, hence becoming alcoholic, I dont think anyone would choose to be one.

The difference is as an alcoholic is dependant on drink the drinker can go without a drink, The majority of drinkers do it for social reasons and seldom if ever drink alone whereas the alco drinks because they have to
