Okay I ran outside in then twice and they are still a little tight I can't be running outside in them much more because I can't let them get dirty if I end up returning them. I need to know if they need to be broken in or to small. These shoes are a 9 (they are nike) I am usually between and 8 and 8 1/2

  1. If your shoe size is 8 1/2 and you have a 9, it might not be that the shoes are to small lenghtwise, but not wide enough.  I have this problem also, because my feet are wide.  If you get blisters on your toes when you run, then they are probably to small lenghtwise, if not, then they aren't big enough in width or, as you said, they might not be broken in.  If you can't get them dirty, try running on a treadmill for about a week to get them broken in so they don't get dirty, or, if you don't have access to a treadmill, you could try wearing them around your house for a couple of days, since they are clean.  Hope this helps=]

  2. Modern running shoes do not need to be broken in, they should fit and feel good the very first time you use them.

Many people need a running shoe that is 1/2 size larger than the street shoe they wear.

Wear shoes around in the store and you should be able to tell if they are going to work or not.

You don't need to run in them outside.

Since you have run in them twice and they still are not right you need some other shoes.

  3. I disagree with the first guy, I do need to break my shoes in. Usually after 4-5 runs I can tell If they will work. Try running on a treadmill for a week or so and see. If you bought the shoes at a specialty running store and they ppl there fit you for the shoe an the shoe hurts your feet they should take them back.
