  1. Cats who have ear infections may shake their heads a lot, have red and/or inflamed ears, scratch their ears, foul odor coming from the ear or ears or have a yellowing or black discharge coming out of the ear. Some pet owners may mistake these symptoms for ear mites because they have similar symptoms to those of ear infections. And some pet owners may also, with the best intention, treat their cats with ear mite solutions you can find at pet and department stores. But, these tend to lead to more problems than they solve.

Or rather than attempt to diagnose and treat your cat yourself, take your cat to your veterinarian if you notice these symptoms. Vets can offer proper treatment for ear conditions, whether the problem is ear mites or an ear infection.

  2. Look in the ears and make sure they are clean and pink inside if they have a brownish mess in the ears it has ear mites and will need medication to remove the mites. As far as water getting into the ears I wouldn't worry about it but the only question I have is why are you giving the cat a bath? Unless it has fleas there is no real reason to put that cat through the trauma of thinking your trying to drown it. Cats are self cleaning critters and don't need it! What you can do to help is brush them so they don't leave hair all over the place and also helps to keep a few less hair balls from forming in their tummy.

  3. How long has the kitten been doing this?  because if it's just water, then it should subside.  I'm assuming since you took the kitten to the vet that they check it's ears and would have treated for any infections.  I wouldn't worry but if it persists, then by all means take your kitten back in and have it's ears checked.

  4. You are probably right.  They do exactly what you said.  If it becomes an infection, they will stop eating and it is very painful.  If it affects the inner ear, she will start to lose her balance.  Definitely take her to the vet asap and have them document everything and write out if they believe it was caused from the bath.  If so, politely hand your groomer the bill and they should pay it.  It happens.  But is their responsibility to pay for it.  However, if you wait - they can argue that it did not happen at their shop.

Good Luck.  Hope kitty feels better soon.
