How do you know what business to start?

Start with something you're proficient in and work backwards. It doesn't matter if you "love" what you do or even if you like it -- you just have to be good at it.

You have to go with something that you have a talent for and that you like.  Why make going to work a pain in the butt?  Pick something you like so everyday will be a day with a hobby.

Try looking around for a "need".  Something that people want and/or need but isn't currently available.  Or isn't available in all areas.

There are many factors in determining what kind of business to start. One is your location. In your local market what is needed. Two, what are you good at. Do you have a trade or skill that a business can be centered around or are you going for retail. If you are going toward retail think of what people in your area would like but do not have yet. Also, what means do you have to start up your business. What are your financing capabilities. Ask yourself these important questions and it should help you figure out what you can do to begin a profit generating business.
