How do you know what is a reputable TEFL certification course?

I want to get a certification in Teaching English as a Second language but am very confused about how to determine what is a reputable certification program. My goal is to teach English in China.

ask a school in china which one they prefer.

I teach in vietnam, and different tefl courses have different reputations in different parts of the world.

China is the biggest country in the world, so the tefl course with the best rep in shanghai might have the worst in beijing.

go to daves esl cafe, find out who is hiring, and email a school in the province you prefer and ask.

I would contact the local colleges and universities. They are certainly reputable and would know if they have TEFL program. Most would have a TESL program, teaching English as a second language. But they should have applicable courses and all you really need is a TESL degree.
