How do you know what major to pick for college?

like what do you need to do to find a major you like.....

Take four courses in different subject matters your first semester. If that doesn't narrow it down, do the same the second semester. By then you will have a better idea. You probably have a general idea. For example, you may like the social sciences, but can't decide between political science, sociology or women's studies. Take all of them. Remember, you can always double major or have a minor. You could also choose one subject to major in and take tons of different courses. It's not as big of a commitment as you may think. Most majors only require that you take 10 courses within the discipline. If you only take 4 courses a semester, you will take 32 courses by the time you graduate. There's a lot of open room to experiment.

A lot of people worry about careers afterwards. If you want to be a doctor, stick to the sciences. But if you want to do just about anything else, take what interests you. Grad schools love interesting applicants.

Though Bobbie has a good point-- pick the subjects that interests you. HOWEVER WARNING!!! there are topic requirements you need to accomplish to finish G.E so don't pick anything that's RANDOM. For example, you need a topic in biography (there will be listed different subjects that relate to that topic) and usually scheduals are made every semester. You are probably undecided and you are under that category with thousands of other students and that is perfectly normal because most people usually change their majors different times so no worries.

Satisfy your interest but also keep in mind the requirements/ classes you need to graduate. Don't overstress yourself either-- 8 pg essays a week is a drag. Haha. Good luck!

P.S-- try to find a major because you need one to graduate. Its better to be prepare to see what you want then wait last minute so choose wisely :)
