How do you know what side faces the flywheel on a clutch disc?

it should say on the clutch plate. the shape of the plate should fit into the contour of the flywheel. try both sides and the disc should be flush with thy flywheel. also look at what side has what looks like brake pads, those will be on the flywheel side
