  1. somr fish give birth to live babies ans some lay eggs although egg layers get full of eggs even when there arent males around

  2. I don't think fish get pregnant... female fish lay eggs and males "pollinate" them.

  3. I have south american cichlids, so I don't know if they would do the same things, but when the female lays the eggs she starts to fan them with her tail. So if you see your female at a certain spot wagging her tail back and forth, she is probably fanning her eggs.

  4. Livebearers (guppies, platies, swordtails, mollies, & others) give birth to babies. They become very wide and deep in the abdomen when they are pregnant.

Tetras are not livebearers, but egg-layers. When the female is full of eggs, she becomes heavier in the abdomen than before, therefore the female looks fatter than the male. When a pair is ready to spawn, the female lays eggs, then the male passes over the eggs, releasing his sperm, thus fertilizing the eggs. The spawning behaviour varies in different species of fish. What happens to the eggs after spawning also varies with different species. of fish. Most species ignore the eggs after spawning, but some kinds of fish (especially the cichlids) guard & care for the eggs and young fry, and chase away any other fish that come too close to their precious babies. Tetras do not guard their eggs or fry.

    I don't know about shrimp.

  5. When any of your fish are pregnant, the will of course grow a bigger belly.

Also, notice that rite where the babies come out, there will be an increasingly growing black spot on either sides of the fish's 'bum'

These black spots will grow until they cover about the back half of your fish.

    And those are the babies.

Then once ready, out they come.

    :)
