How do you know when bacon is done?

I know this is a bone-head question, but I have a tendency of overcooking it. Obviously, you do not want to undercook it.

There has to be a 'rule of thumb' when cooking it.

Please advise. Thanks.

  1. It really depends on your taste.  I like mine extra crispy, cooked to the point that it is on the edge of being burnt.  My dad, on the other hand, likes his to still be "rubbery".  It will harded a little after you take it out of the pan, so it can be hard to judge.  Once the meaty part of the bacon has browned and cooked, you just have to look at the fatty part to see if it is at the point that you like it, browned for extra crispy, or still a little white for rubbery.

  2. You don't want to undercook or over cook it.

I put it in for 3 minutes 30 seconds.

then add 20 seconds each time till its not undercooked or crispy.

i've noticed 4 minutes is almost to perfect.

  3. Wow, I just eyeball it.  You really have to watch the fat.  It cooks 'slow' and then all of a sudden it's done and crackly.  It also has hold over cooking after you remove it. I used to microwave mine and go til the fat was medium brown.  I learned the other day that I could use my stone jelly roll pan from Pampered Chef. It holds a pound of bacon.  25-30 mins later in a 350 degree oven and it's perfect! We don't always need a pound at a time but it freezes or keeps in the fridge for a quick nuke later for reheating.

  4. Depends how you like it.i like my fat slightly crispy, usually cook for around 5 mins each side.my partner likes his just cooked, around 2.5 mins each side.

  5. When you cook bacon you got to watch it the whole time it's cooking or you can easily burn it.  The way not to burn it is to watch for little bubbles around the bacon then flip it over in the pan to test for done-

ness of the bacon.  If you want it crispier then cook it for another minute for the desired doneness.

  6. I grill in the oven for 3-5 minutes turning a few times, though I do like it when it is nice and crunchy.
