How do you know when the dvd burner on your computer is going bad?

I'm guess when it suddenly stops working, or maybe when it gives you fragments

when almost all of your dvds have errors that you burn, if you feel it is going bad and is slower than normal for same size projects you could go to best buy and tell them they you need a dvd burner for your computer and they will help you pick out the one that is best for you

alot of differnt signs possible the tray doesnt want to open without a paperclip the you get alot more coasters then you normally do having problems detremining if a disc is a dvd or a cd but all of this could just as easily be software related unless your drive is makeing grinding noises then I would say its going bad
