  1. You use a block quote when the quote is longer than 4 lines. The indent is the same same as a standard tab.  This is for MLA format


  2. When you type it up on the computer, if the quote takes up 5 lines or more, you need to block quote it. The citation goes at the end of the quote, just like any normal quote, except you don't have to worry about actual quotation marks. The indent is 10 spaces.
