How do you know when your clutch dog in a outboard mototr has gone bad and how much would it cost to get fixed

  2. while running at speed, it feels like you hit a stump every now & then.

    if the dog's bad, the gearset might be, too.  gearcase rebuild is at least a thousand.

    one cause of premature clutch dog wear:  slow shifting.  if you shift gently and hear grinding gears, you're doing it wrong.

    throw it into gear quickly and with authority.  you want to hear a satisfying "clunk!"

    this is the 2nd or 3rd, and last, time I'm answering this question.
