  1. When the egg is released for fertilization this is called ovulation. The egg dies after 24 hours or less. But sperm can live for up to 5 or 6 days especially if its around ovulation time as your cervical mucous has sugar in it which the sperm can live on and they have nice little hidey holes to wait in until the right time :)

It is exactly 14 days BEFORE you get your period that you ovulate. However as the length of your cycle may vary to a great or small extent each month its good to get to know YOUR cycle. An average cycle is 28 - 35 days long.

I have used the following techniques to both avoid and later achieve pregnancy and this was very successful for me:

Temperature method: Every morning b4 getting up or doing anything active (eg s*x, eating), take your temp under your arm with a special ovulation thermometer from the chemist which are very acurate to a tenth of the degree.

Record the temp on a chart. You will notice (especially if you do this a few months) that the temp rises around the middle of the month. The day it rises sharply is the day you ovulate.

Unless something happens like you take medication or have the flu.

Billings method: This is very accurate and evident. My mum knew the day she would get pregnant as her cervical mucous showed her.

Did you ever notice goo on your undies throughout the month? Well basically it changes over the month. The most fertile mucous is called 'Spinn'. It is clear or white and tringy and gooey. You can stretch it between your fingers up to about 3 inches (the longer you can stretch it the more fertile). Generally you have more when you are fertile too. If you are dry or just a little tacky you are not fertile.

Rhythm: This is not always reliable but over a few months of recording how long you have between periods, you can figure out the most likely day you will ovulate according to the '14 days before period' theory.

Ive put a link below. :D

  2. I have the same question.  I bought a month pack of those strips you pee on in the morning, so they will let me know...I started peeing on the strip 15 days after my period because I have 32 day cycles and thats the amount of days it said to wait.... well still no signs of ovulation (a week in a half into it).  Im just taking it as a sign it will happen when it happens.  But good luck to you!

  3. you ovulate 2 weeks after your period you can get pregnant anytime but you have a greater chance when your ovulating cause the eggs are being released.

  4. it's right inbetween two periods, and you can get pregnant at other times, just as a warning. most people don't feel it, but some do, like me.... it feels like your fallopian tube is getting pinched really hard for like an hour. It kinda hurts...

  5. you can only get pregnant when ovulating. Normally this time is right in the middle of when you started your period and when you start your next period! Many girls say they know when they are ovulating but i never could! Some girls say they can tel by how their lower stomach feels but the best way to know is to get a test at the store. If your periods ar eregular then it should be soemtime between the 14-16 daysof your cycle!
