do you mark them out with paper at first?

I am a total beginner, can you give me any starter tips? I want to teach myself, I can read music and play the guitar, but there are less strings and no frets...how do I get started?

  1. Okay I've been playing the Violin for 7 years and when I first started my teacher showed me where the notes where on the neck (obviously) and when I got home I put some plain white tape underneath the strings where the notes, and when I learned where the notes were without using the tape I eventually removed the tape. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck. Cheers!
