How do you know wich heater core to buy?

i have a 99 dodge caravan, and i need to replace the heater core, but ordering the parts it sais there is the front and there is a rear i can see it with the hood open and its on the fire wall if that means anything

As everyone else has stated if you see the heaterhoses attatching to the core on the firewall that would be the front. The factory dodge part# is 4886528ac $205 available in a day or two from your local dealership.

Some Caravans have 2 heaters, one in the front and one in the back with a core at both locations. Since you are refering to the one at the hood you need the front core.
