I've had my braces on for a year and 7 months (19 months) I was just wondering what else did they do when you were close to getting your braces off? Did you know?

  1. i haven't got mine off yet, and have had them about as long as you. But my ortho usually says that you get them off the time before you do. Like basically you go in for your regular appointment, and at the end, he says "looks like your getting them off next time"

    good luck

  2. I had my braces for two years and you just know because they keep saying how good your teeth look and how you should be getting them off really soon. If you hear stuff like that then you know you have a month or two left. :)

  3. Your orthodontist will probably

say that he's going to be taking molds

    of your teeth, which means.

You're going to be getting your retainers soon.

  4. A few of things should start happening that will tell you that your braces are going to be removed soon.

-Your orthodontist examines you extensively and fills out a check list called "De-Banding Checklist"

    -New X-Rays are taken.

-A mold for your retainers is made

    -Changes in hardware/elastics are decelerating

It also depends on what problems you had before you started treatment.

-Crooked/overlapping teeth usually don't take any longer than a year and six months

-Over bites/cross bites/under bites usually take an extra year.

And any combination of problems usually take about 2 1/2 years. But again all this depends on the extent of your complications.
