Question:

How do you label flows on a function structure?

I'm an undergrad working on a research project that requires creating function structures. I'm trying to create one for a vacuum cleaner and I can't figure out how to label some of the flows. I've figured out the easy ones like air, debris and human force but I don't know what to label the ones that are the fasteners. For example, I have 'guide motion' (which is the handle) which then leads to 'secure handle' (which is the s***w holding it to the body). What do I label this arrow/flow as?

If you could just point me to a good website or something, that would help too. I've tried googling it, but everything that comes up is papers that I don't have the money to pay for subscriptions to.

Thanks!

  1. Not really an answer to your question.  However, if you find papers on Google Scholar that are of interest, then use your university library system to get them.  Often, school libraries pay subscription fees to online databases like Elsevier or Science Direct.  Logging in using your ID number or username should do the trick.  Also, public libraries have access to some of these databases (usually not as good as the university system though).
