  1. Well it's a little hard to explain. Yes you should invest in a yoke or even a joystick.

there are red light's at the beginning of the runway. They change from red over red to red over while to while over white. you want those light's to say red over white, this way your not too high or low.

I would suggest you download another panel, so you can use auto land, and watch the best pilot in the world land a plane. The auto pilot.

it taker's along time to master a good landing, and flying with a keyboard isn't making it any better. IF you have any questions my yahoo screen name is dvail88.

    good luck

  2. landing a plane on flight simulator using a keyboard (for me) is a very difficult thing to do. you might want to invest in a joystick with a throttle lever and then you can adjust your speed and direction as fine as you can.

you need to have a slow speed to start with, but not so slow that you stall the plane, the slower the plane goes, the faster it drops down. secondly, when you think you are lined up as best as you can with the runway, use the up/down arrow keys to adjust your pitch and descent rate, then when you are just about to touch down pull the nose up just above the horizon and flare. the plane will lose a little bit more speed and gently touch down on the runway. at this point, your throttle should be at idle (press f1 during final approach), when your aircraft is on the runway, press and hold f2 to activate the thrust reversers, press the '/' key to engage the spoilers and press and hold the '.' key to engage the brakes to slow down before the end of the runway.

One last thing. A real world pilot, who flies for Northwest Airlines told me a ratio to use when landing a plane (even if it's in Flight Simulator) and that is, if you are 1000 feet up in the air you should be 3 mile out from the runway, using about a -800 ft/min descent rate.

  3. i see what your problem is. Keyboard and Fs2004 just don't match. I can land perfectly wtih my joystick and if I used the keyboard I would crash the plane. Go to circuit city and just buy a cheap joystick. Ok pull open your gps. when you are lined up on the localizer, the little green thing, make you are around 1800 ft above the ground and reduce speed to o around 135 knots and put your flaps out to second to last setting and use your autopilot for the speed if you are new. If you really want to make things easy for yourself, open up the map, click on an airport and find the NAV frequency for the runway you want  to land on and put it into your NAV radio. On the autopilot make sure navigation is set to NAV and not GPS and turn on autopilot and turn on the navigation setting and it will line you up with the localizer. Some panels like the ultimate boeing panel on library.avsim.net come with autolanders. Use your autopilot for everything on landings except altitude, flaps, and lowering the gear, and little by little allow yourself to do it but it is pretty hard to do with a keyboard so you should probably get yourself a joystick. there only like $20 bucks for a cheep one so just spend the money. Its worth it.

  4. buy a cheap joystick and all your problems will be solved!

  5. First of all, start with a much simpler aircraft like a Cessna 172.

Using a keyboard makes it a little tough too. I would recommend buying a least a moderate joystick or investing in a set of USB rudder pedals and a USB yoke (www.sportys.com).

Landing is always the hardest part to learn, FS or real world. The most important thing is lining yourself up with the runway. Then watch your airspeed. Too fast and you'll overshoot and/or float; too slow and you'll stall. When you're at the right height above the runway and the right airspeed, you gently pull the nose up, let the aircraft settle, and land on the main gear letting the nose come down slowly onto the gear.

Try using the built in lessons that are on FS 2004. You can learn a lot from them. But mainly, start small.
