How do you learn a foreign language?

I've been trying to learn German for a year now and will be enrolling in an intermediate German course in the fall. I would just like some insights from other foreign language learners as to how to practice the language in my spare time (outside of the classroom). I'm 21 years old and although I've been told that learning a new language at my age is tough, I'm still determined to do it.

  2. Hang around fluent speakers.

Watching movies in the language is a good way to do this.

Read in the language! Reading is good because it can be done at your own pace, plus you get to see the way the language is constructed. Don't get carried away with it though, or else your speaking skills will go down the tubes though.

  3. The best way to learn a language is to become immersed in it. If you can, live in Germany for a few months.

  4. welll im bilingal right now, becuase i am korean and i came to america and my parents strictly made me talk korean at home and that helped me a lot and out in public i would speak english,.sooo find some german friends andtry to use only german. that what i did, becuase of that ... i can speak korean. english, french fluently,.

  5. just practice, practice and practice :)

it's like when we we're kids, we didn't learn how to speak or mother instantly right? :)

  6. it helps to know someone who knows some german too. it'd be extra great if you two were in the same class. then you both can have mini conversations involving the exact stuff you learned that day.

  7. Just make sure you have good study materials and keep at it every day.

I studied German for now over 1 year and I can write my relatives in imperfect German.
