Bicarbonate of soda, sprinkle it on and leave it over night then hoover.

spray the carpet with white vinegar let stand for a bit until well absorbed by the carpet and steam clean! Keep the windows open to let air from outside come in on a nice windy day. And yes by all mean sprinkle the carpet with Baking soda  in between vacuuming it will absorb odours.

Throw it away and buy a new one. Keeping it is just unhygienic. Id it's in the bathroom maybe you could replace it with tiles or lino

i'd suggest some Disinfectant and some air freshener...

Steam cleaner is your best bet..I bought a really good one and yes it is pricey but in times like this it is soo worth it, plus you now that it is REALLY clean
