  1. Germany......its great.  I moved here from England last year to Leipzig in the east.  I have my girlfriend here, a place to live and a job which for an English speaker here is pretty good going!!!!  The people are friendly......the countrysides stunning and theres more to do over here.  This is where I will raise my future children!!!!

  2. Heidelberg is a fantastic city and the German people that I met were great!

  3. I don't like Germany, I love it. I  lived there for about 5 years... For the scenery alone Germany gets five stars. I love the food and the fact that there are so many diverse restaurants here. And croquetten (or how ever you spell it) is hard to find elsewhere in the world.  I love that I speak only a little Germany, but the people are nice to me anyway. I love the autobahn not for the speed, but for how effecient the German's drive- nothing like laws stating you have to get out of the fast lane you slow driver you. I love the ease of public transportation and never having an excuse not to go anywhere. I love the history of every small town, castle, ruin, church, you name it!  Germany is one place where the good out weighs the bad.

  4. It's not all the same

  5. flattened..........or 5-1 down against England

(put your thumbs down in the box below  PC brigade)

  6. Under the control of the British Army.

  7. I like it minced, wrapped in cabbage leaves and baked with onion gravy and potatoes. They call it kohroulade.

Wash it down with red wine (not German!) or a nice glass of weissbier.

  8. I'm American, lived here for 4 years and I think it is great.  I mean I am in Central Europe I can drive for 4 Hours in any direction and be in a different country.  Germany has awesome architecture and lots of beautiful scenery not to mention the history.  It is also amazing how well the Germans mix nature with civilization.  Plus I would dare to say the nightlife is the best in the world.

  9. I love it here,it`s where I`m born and still live.

Hi Noni,of course you get Peanut butter here in almost every store, who knows in what kind of stores you was!?

  10. I've lived here for 11 years and think it's great.  My home is near Moenchengladbach and within an hour of Dusseldorf, Koeln (Cologne) the Eifel and Holland.

What really impresses is how efficient everything is - public transport, banks, all the things that, when they foul up, really ruin your day.

I like the fact that people respect the law, violent crime is rarer than where I come from (UK), and people respect others in a way that hasn't been seen in Britain for decades.

The shops are very good but to live day to day you need some basic shopping German.

Socially, I find German people are somewhat more organised and into group activities sports, fetes and so on.  They also make an outsider feel very welcome and reallly like the British (especially, curiously, the cars eg Jaguar, Morgan and so on).

I am moving later this year to retire to France.  I shall miss Germany but need better weather!

The Geography can be astonishing, the people friendly, food and accommodation reasonably priced and of good quality.  As a holiday destination I fail to see why Germany isn't more popular.

Try a visit, tour a bit and see how it feels to you.  One word of warning would be to avoid driving in residential areas until you are familiar with the road laws - there are very sensible laws aimed at protecting pedestrians, cyclists and tram users; do make sure you know them!

  11. It is beautiful and amazing. So many wounderful places to visit. I travel there about 3-4times a year. I have family and friends that live in Germany. First time I went it was breath taking and I almost have the same feeling every time I go.

  12. It's a great place, everything organized, friendly people, helpful, great food, you can travel all over the Europe, Autobahn is good, you can do and see so many interesting places. Great.

  13. Germany is my number one favourite destination for holidays.  I have never been disappointed.  I have stayed in Hamburg, Luebeck, the Rhineland, the Mosel valley, Munich, Lake Constane, Cologne and in August we are going to the island of Ruegen on the Baltic coast.

The towns are extremely attractive, there is an air of quiet and culture and the countryside spectacularly beautiful and varied.  A bonus is that the transport system is excellent and trains relatively cheap - as well as very comfortable.  The second class in Inter City trains is every bit as good as the best 1st class in England.

Food is good and service (usually) attentive and polite.  In smaller towns and the countryside, everyone greets everone they pass.  Germans (contrary to the sereotype) attach great importance to the everyday politeness.  Always say "Guten Tag" or "Guten Abend" when you go into shops/pubs/restaurants or anywhere else.  It make all the difference to how you are treated.

I particularly like ice cream cafes and cafes doing "Kaffee und Kuchen" (coffee and cakes).  Very generous portions and absolutely delicious.

The last time my wife and I visited Germany, there was a street wine festival.  Local people were almost competing with each other to invite us to sit at their table.  They almost propelled us into the dancing.  Fantastic.

There are downpoints.  Tea comes with a separate container of evaporated milk.  This takes a lot of getting used to.  But if you ask for fresh milk, they will provide it.  Also - many of the toilets are of an interesting design!  I leave it to bolder posters than me to let readers have the details!  Widely travelled as I am in Europe, I have come across nothing like them anywhere else!

  14. Hi,

I am from the UK and have been living ín Germany for a few years.

I like it - maybe my (German) boyfriend makes it great though!

But seriously - there are loads of differences when I compare my home country to here - but I do like it here.

The weather is great in the summer - though freezing in the winter. Shopping is not as great as it is at home - and there seems to be an 80's passion here which is so fascinating to see...

the hair - the mullet is still big here!

music - so many 80's night and tribute bands!!

The food is nice and I love the people I teach!

The only problem I have is the language - But that is good as I understand those who have problems with English!

    I am happy here!

  15. How do you like Germany  ?

    With a little salt

  16. only good thing is the berlin zoo...lol

  17. Been to Germany quite alot for business and pleasure.

Find the Germans to me nice people and the cities are nice and clean. Hotel  and food standards very high and your Beer goes down a treat.

Unlike the UK your Auto Banns are mainly 2 Lane and it gets a bit hairy sometimes when your cars go past you at 120mph but in saying that you do get to places quite quickly.

Berlin is cool as is Hamburg and like black forest very much.

For English people who haven't been to Germany before you will be pleasantly surprised

  18. Today, Germany is a far nicer place then its history suggest in the early to middle 1900s and now that the country is one with the Berlin wall Down and forgotten.! the older people are seemingly serious ,the younger ones are great fun.

  19. Germany is great. Trust me, I live in Belgium. There is a lot of stuff to do there and.......................they have a Walmart!

  20. Germany is the best country by far. I worked for the Americans in Germany for ten years, and the Americans very often confided in me that they had nothing like the various facilities in America. They [the americans] loved the over all life style in Germany. The 24hr night life, the best beer, great fests, road, rail, and bus transport, and their health care system. In southern Germany, long hot Summers followed by cold winters and the ski-ing , ice skating, on your door step.WHEN YOU can speak and understand German, you'll find their sense of humour fantastic, and just as good as any in world. The people that poo-pah the German sense of humour, are just ignorant Germany's A -OK.

  21. loved it! beautiful country.

  22. It's great. Warm sunny weather. Cold beer. Friendly people.

  23. Bavaria is amazing.

  24. I think it is a very pleasant country to visit and the people I met were polite and helpful. So yes I like Germany.

  26. I was supposed to only stay for one year. I have now been living in Germany for 20 years. So, I like living in Germany. Very healthy lifestyle and I am not fat like most of my family living in America.

Wal-Mart is no longer in Germany. The REAL/Metro chain of stores took over the Wal-Mart stores. The Wal-Mart way of selling did not go over well in Germany.
