My girlfriend and I are thinking of moving there in a year or two. Tell me about it. Crime, jobs(serving/retail), people, culture, safety, public transportation etc. Thank you!

  1. Since no one has been able to offer any personal experiences, I'll try to give you some sources of information about Lacey.

This Web site gives a lot of data about Lacey.

    http://www.city-data.com/city/Lacey-Wash...

For example, it shows that unemployment declined there every year between 2003 and 2007.  The overall rate as of September 2007 was 4.3 percent, which is the same as the average rate in Washington state.

The median age of residents is 34.2 years, which is more than a full year younger than the state average.  And the median age of the houses is "significantly below" the state average (a sign that there has been a lot of new construction).  Nevertheless, housing prices are more affordable than in Washington generally.

The crime index as of 2006 was 307.7, compared to the national average of 323.2, so that's good news.  Auto thefts appear to be on the rise, but serious crimes against people (robberies, assaults, rapes, and murder) are either more or less stable or actually declining.

There is tons more stuff here--everything from churches to weather--and it should give you a lot of useful information.  You might also want to look at the official city Web page, which tells a lot about government services.

    I hope this helps.
