It is going to be my new job. I am excited but a little nervous. I hear it is a very stressful job. I am selling life, health, and auto, so I will be dealing with it all. Just wanted to get other people's opinions on how they liked their jobs in the field.

  1. i work for an auto insurance broker.... i have been working here for about 1year and a half.... i really like it, but yes.... sometimes it could be very stressful! but it could be very rewarding.... and it is very fun! i hope you like your new job! good luck!

  2. It's just like any other job, it all depends on your attitude.  I work for State Farm and love it.  The people I work with are great and the company i work for is great.  But then again, i'm working for the biggest company with the best reputation.  Regarding the comment about people leaving you for a few dollars; If all you have to sell is your price than you're probably not going to be sucessful or like it.  However, if you learn your stuff, educate your clients, and treat people like you want to be treated you shouldn't have any problems.  I make over $30/hour and have no degree, only an issurance licesnse.

  3. I work in more of an administrative role in the company, but, when we get busy, I am licensed to sell and do occasionally put business on the books myself. I find that insurance sales are incredibly difficult because people just don't understand what they are buying. By the time you've explained the deductible, co-insurance, and out-of-pocket maximum on a health plan, they're all just a bit dumb-founded. Plus, insurance companies are all about dollars and cents. I've had people yell at me for selling "discriminatory" products because a health insurance company would up-rate them based on their height and weight. Then again, I only get involved in that part of our business when things have gotten crazy, so I'm talking to people who were expecting a phone call two days ago and just got one.

My advice- be 100% clear on what you're selling before you try to explain anything to a client. And remember that the people you're dealing with don't understand the language of the business but at the same time don't want to be talked down to.

  4. i love it!  its great to get to be able to actually educate people on what they are purchasing.  my clients come in knowing nothing about insurance and leave totally satisfied knowing they now understand the coverages, what they are for and that i work hard for them.  my people do NOT leave me over a $5 difference because they know i am a good agent and will work for them and our agency is not here just to make money but we are here for customer service.  it truly is a customer based industry and if your a good agent they would rather pay a little more and have good people and a good company behind them.

  5. The market is a little softer now... i m an independent agent and i m tired of it.. people will leave you for $5.00 cheaper policy... don't get upset....

it is ok industry.. it pays the bills! (as i m on ya instead of working!!!)
