How do you locate Program and Windows files in Vista?

Over 40 years with computers and no problems with previous Windows doing this. And I know I have done this at least once. But recall it an indirect approach. Much as I know about computers it is a little problem like this that makes me stumble. As said anyone claiming to know everything about computers is a beginner with an an inflated ego. And I bet a dollar to a donut that it will be someone in the 13 to 18 year old range that leads me out of this stumper. So, give your age when you answer, so I see I'm right.

  1. Not sure what you mean by "locate", but they're right in the Windows Explorer directory pane (left-hand), under C:\Program Files and C:\Windows.

    If you mean, how do you search for them, I'd use the search box in the upper right corner of the Windows Explorer window.  Be sure to select the starting directory first.  Typing a file name in the Start->Search box tends to execute it when found.

    And for the record, I'm 62. (Proof:  The first Clarabelle Clown on Howdy Doody went on to become Captain Kangaroo.)

    Hope that helps.

  2. ummm...they're the same as they are in all windows nt-based operating systems:

    %systemdrive% ---> WINDOWS

    %systemdrive% ---> Program files

    If you know so much about computers then why don't you just install windows XP or 2000 or something...I'm not trying to be mean or rude, but it might be better to use an operating system you are familiar with.  Plus they are faster, more secure, and less buggy.  They just don't have all of the "frills" of widows vista.

    Windows XP was Micro$ofts last good operating systems in my opinion.

    p.s.

    DOS, the old Microsoft operating system that preceded Windows, hasn’t been included in Windows for years. The early versions of Windows were built on top of DOS, so DOS programs could run as they always did.

    If you mean command prompt inside of windows, then just type "cmd" inside the search box on the start menu.

    p.p.s.

    Politics is corrupt.  Sorry that happened to you.

  3. C:\Program Files

    C:\Windows

    It's not different to XP

  4. Click the Start Orb and then click Computer, click C:\ (Usually called Vista) and then a list of folders will appear. One of them will be the "Windows" folder and another one will be the "Program Files" folder.

    C:\Windows

    and

    C:\Program Files

    These folders haven't changed since Windows ME

    Age: 15, so yup, you are right
