How do you locate a prisoners number in the state of Louisiana?

If you know the prisoner, he could write you and tell you what his number is.  If you're family, I suppose you could call the prison where he's housed and ask.  If you do this, they're going to want to know why you need this, I'm sure.  If you're not family, maybe you could ask his family.
