I have a mac and use microsoft excel 2004 mac version. I have tried clicking "freeze panes" from "window" but it freezes half the page and the line can not be moved. I just want to freeze the top row and nothing else

  1. Highlight the whole row under the one you want to freeze, then select freeze pane.

  2. Go to the first field in excel that you want to freeze on in column A and select the field just below where you want the window to freeze. Then go to the window menu and select freeze panes.  Hope this helps.
