I believe that someone close to me hasn't been honest. How do I go about looking up discharge from the Marines? I would like to know if it was honorable or dishonorable...and if it was dishonorable, why?

  1. Unless he registered his DD-214 with the county recorders office, you cannot. It's personal information.

  2. Due to the privacy act, you are not authorized this information. The information will be listed on his DD214, but you are not eligible to request one. If he filed his DD214 with the county clerk, it then becomes public record and you can go look at it. But as far as obtaining a copy from Marine Headquarters HR command or the NPRC, they won't tell you thing.
