  1. shocks dont matter, its the springs that need lowering, once done the shocks should be just fine. If the car has coil springs the way to shorten them is to take them out and cut a coil or part thereof. Careful now, its easy to take too much off, better to do them in stages. If fitted with leaf springs you will need lowering blocks from after market auto parts supplier. (not expensive)

  2. Does a 1991 grand am have springs? if so then you have to lower the springs, and the struts,or shocks you can get shorter shocks but you need a lowering kit to do it safely.

  3. All cars have rear shocks, dude.  You can cut the springs, or replace them.  Or you can put 400 lb of cement in the trunk.

  4. I have not worked on cars for a while, but if it has rear coil springs, getting shorter springs or cutting some off of the ones you have will do it. If it has leaf springs, which I doubt, you will have to change brackets or shackles and maybe the sprigs themselves. Depending on how low you want to go, you may need to change the shocks to shorter ones, and much the same goes for the font end. Of course you can always have ex-wife sit in it. That should drop it at least eight to ten inches.

  5. any car you want to lower needs lowering springs. the springs control the ride height of a vehicle not the shock. the shock only dampens the rebound of the vehicle. you only need to change shocks if you are lowering the car a lot(usually more than 2 inches). If it has struts (not sure on the pontiac) than you still need springs just have to find someone to install them on the strut.
