like the question is principal 31000 and rate 2 and 1 over 2 and time 18 months i know your suppose to multiply all of them together but how do u make the rate into a decimal the rate of 2 and 1 over 2 into a decimal?

  1. Do you mean 2 and 1 over 2 percent interest?

    That would be 2.5 % = 00.025.

    A percentage sign is the same as multiplying by 1/100.

    When you remove a percentage sign, you move the decimal point two digits to the LEFT.  (Throw zeroes in front of the number if you need to as in 2.5 = 0002.5.)

    Similarly, when you change from a decimal to a percent, you move the decimal point two digits to the RIGHT and tag on the percentage sign.
