How do you make Hash Browns?

I like to make home fries as they are easier.  However I think the method will work for hash browns too --

I just peel up about 4 russett potatoes, slice them thin, and put them into a skillet (non-stick) with a few tbsps of butter and some chopped yellow or white onions.  Cook on medium high heat until they are as crispy as you want them.  Cover to make them cook faster.  Salt & pepper while they are cooking seasons them nicely.

If you want to try it for the usual hash browns you could try shredding the potato with a food grater and use that instead of potato slices.  You could also add garlic for more flavor.
