  1. PVA, or polyvinyl acetate as it is known by its proper name, is prepared by polymerization of vinyl acetate monomer, also referred to as VAM. Partial or complete hydrolysis of the polymer is used to prepare polyvinyl alcohol. The hydrolyzed alcohol product is typically in the 87% to 99% range.

    It is however available so widely, at such a cheap price, that making your own is probably not worth the trouble. You can dilute PVA with water if you need to change the viscosity.

    Some other varieties are available that are almost PVA, if you require special attributes from the glue (such as moisture resistance).
