  1. I agree with Simon, start skiing fakie (backwards) learn to snowplough and parallel and make sure its smooth and feel comfortable doing it (it looks sweet as well zooming down backwards carving) also twintip skis make this a whole lot easier.

then the 360 will be a sinch its just like as you enter a 180 (fakie) then come out of it, but continuous,

    Good luck

  2. badly

  3. Listen to Jim W, he knows what he is talking about.

  4. I'm not sure, but it will probably help to be sure to not cross the skis

  5. Dont worry, I dont really get what that person means either lol and i've been skiing for forever.

But turning around backwards is a bit weird at first.  It took me a while to learn.  But here's what you do.

Pretend you are goign to hockey stop (parallel/sliding stop) on your skis. you put your weight on your ski that is goign to be your downhill ski (if turning to the left, then your right foot will be downhill and if turnign to the right, then your left foot will be downhill) and that allows you to turn without catching the inside edge of your uphill ski. (so if you were turning left, you would pick up your left ski slightly and turn with your right foot).

You do the same thing backwards, except with opposite skis..  If you are facing uphill, and want to turn to your left, then you will have to lift your weight off of your right ski (which will be your uphill ski during the turn) and turn with your left foot.  If you dont lift your right ski, your going to catch your inside edge on your foot and fall.  Same thign goes for turning right.

So while your going down the hill, try to hockey stop to either side, but let yourself over-rotate and get goign backwards.  Then, try and hockey stop again going backwards and let yourself over-roate again and t hen you have the 360

    Hope that isnt too confusing.

  6. I've been doing this for years and it is definitly a lot of fun. So when youve swung your body into a switch position, make sure you have your balance before trying to go all the way around. When you are sure you have your balance, shift your weight to the foot opposite of the way your turning to prevent catching the edge. Next you want to swing your body as hard as you can and as you are swinging around slowly take that weight off the other foot and just even your body out. it'll take practice so be sure to be patient, it'll come and be lots of fun!

  7. This is a very easy turn to do, I show my 3 day class how to learn it.  We start with a herringbone position and do wedge turns reverse down a gentle slope. Then uphill christies in both directions, after a few repetitions, we do falling leaf down the hill to both sides, then link an uphill christy 180, look where you want to go and do a reverse uphill christy. Practice this a few times and then link them with smooth edge changes and zero F/A balance, lead with your nose until you are clear around.  The balance and edge change at a medium speed is very sensitive to over edging or balance that is not zero.  Wax your skiis, bevel your edges, 1x1, and practice slowly at first. It should take about 4 hours of practice to be comfortable with the stunt.

  8. Work up to this gradually.

Start be baking 180 turns so your backwards in a snow plough, then as you get comfortable with this, try making a backward plough turn to finish..... it will take a lot of practise and a few falls....

Practise on not too steep a slope, and try to find a well groomed one as well

    Good luck!

  9. Hey Jh902,  SkiMan Here!!!    A 360 turn?  Sounds like you want to do tricks!   If so, turning is easy going forward as well as going backward.  360 turns you have both forward turns and backward turns.  Turning in skiing as well as walking involves one foot in front of the other.  Walking right is started with the right foot.  Skiing is the same, turning right you slide the right foot forward to ski right.  Now comes the fun part cause you want to do a 360.  Turn right by sliding your right foot forward as you get to the 180 position quickly switch your feet and come back to the 0 or the 360 position skiing down hill.  Check me out on youtube and notice my skis switching back and forth to turn as well as 360s.  Google SkiMan @ Loon and click on SkiMan picture.  You will be doing 360s before you know it.  Good Luck.  SkiMan out!  See Ya.......
