  1. This drink is designated as an

    IBA Official Cocktail

    Gibson

    Type: Cocktail

    Primary alcohol by volume: Gin

    Served: stirred

    Standard garnish: silverskin onion peel

    Standard drinkware:

    Cocktail glass

    IBA specified ingredients:

    6cl (6 parts) gin

    1cl (1 part) dry vermouth

Preparation: Stir well in a shaker with ice, then strain into glass.

Garnish with a silverskin onion and serve

  2. It is a Gibson when you use a pearl onion instead of an olive.

    6 parts gin or vodka

1/2 to 1 part vermouth depending on taste.

    1 pearl onion

Add ice to your martini glass and set aside.

Add ice, vermouth* and gin/vodka to your shaker. Stir. Don't shake. Contrary to what Bond would like us to think clear liquors should always be stirred.

Dump the ice out of your glass and add the onion. Add the onion before the pour allows for the release of aromatics into the drink.

Strain your chilled martini into the glass.

    Enjoy.

*Personally, I don't add the vermouth to the shaker. After dumping the ice out of the glass, I add the vermouth and swirl it to coat. Then add my garnish...then the chilled gin.

    EDIT:

Sorry, just realized I said a "pearl" onion...I meant a cocktail onion...a pearl that has been brined.

  3. Gibson Martini Recipe. 8 parts gin or vodka 3 to 5 dashes dry vermouth 2 cocktail onions.

  4. gin or vodka, a TINY splash of dry vermouth, mix or stir over ive, strain into glass. garnish with cocktail onions. it's the onion that makes it a gibson.
