  1. If you are going for a toasted panini, you would butter the outside of the bread, fill the insides with your choice of veg and meats and then cook the whole sandwich in a press (but a grill works fine as well).

If you want a fresh panini AKA Panino terracina, cook the meat first(recommend Italian herb meatballs, or shredded chicken, pork or beef, or you can just have cold prosciutto), then layer it onto a sub filled with lettuce, cheese, sundried tomato, olives (optional) and rocket.

  2. There is a video that shows how to make some different kinds of panini sandwiches.

  3. You can put just about anything in a Panini.

I use my G Foreman for this all the time.

The fastest/easiest at first, is to buy the

pre-made sandwiches at Walmart or you

local market deli, remove any lettuce and

tomato, and put it on the grill. Try the Italian

coldcut selection, most place will have these.

I like using provolone cheese the best and I

don't butter the bread, but suppose you can.

I do like to slice fresh jalapenos very thin and

those though. You can't go wrong - have fun with it!

  4. Sourdough bread is nice; butter it or brush w/ EVOO

As far as cheeses, havarti, muenster, provolone, and colby all melt very nicely; no need to use that fake cheese that's individualy wrapped.

Usually paninis do not have lettuce/tomato on them, precisely b/c they are grilled.  Serve on teh side, and you can add them on them to the sammie if you desire after serving, or just eat as a side salad.

GF would work better than a toaster oven b/c it makes contact w/ both sides of the bread at once.
