Question:

How do you make a WD passport 160G split so it registers as multiple drives?

I bought a 160Gb WD passport Notebook Flashdrive and i have a friend that had it done to his drive. He would plug in the drive and it would register as 3 different drives 1 for his music 1 for pics and 1 for school but he moved away and i never asked him how to do it so hoopefully some one can hellp me on this one. he said it was EZ to do = )

  1. You need to partition the drive by going into disk management on your computer.  You can do this by typing 'diskmgmt.msc' from the start button.  Make sure your drive is plugged in and you can go from there. You will see your drives and partitions you all ready have.  Right click the drive and select "shrink volume" and select a new size.  One you've done that, right click on the new 'free space' and click on 'create new volume.'  It's pretty self explanatory once you get to it.  Just make three different patitions on your passport then you can do what you want with them.  A good place to go for a reference as you are doing this is http://www.zolved.com/synapse/view_conte...

    I know it says Vista, but it is pretty much the same in XP also.


  2. I have the exact same external hardrive.I would just organize my files in one drive. Just save it on your hard drive and it pretty much organizes itself just click the tabs on the top and click for example type,date modified,or name and it allows you to easily find what you need or you can use the search bar as well. Or you can make a file for each type of data too.
