  1. The will is suppose to be filed at the courthouse, which is a public record.

  2. Lawyers don't "execute" wills.  "Execution" means signing.

You make it foolproof by signing it in the manner required by law; initialing or signing every page and immediately making photo copies of the properly executed will & separating the copy from the original & keeping them both in separate safe places where anyone who can tamper with one cannot tamper with the other.

  3. The testator and the lawyer should go over the will together before the testator signs it.  Beneficiaries should not be involved in the process unless invited to do so by the testator.

The purpose of the will is to express the wishes of the testator concerning the distribution of the estate's assets upon his or her death.

A testator may create a codicil, changing provisions of the previous will, or may create a new will to replace a previous will.

In probate, a court may hear testimony from anyone who has evidence that a will has been altered since the testator's signature was affixed.

  4. Take an exact copy and leave it with another laywer OR leave it in a safe and keep the key with you until you die.

But be sure to let the first lawyer know that there is another copy.
