How do you make a banner in gimp?

okies.

i searched that up a couple of times and NONE of the answers made any sense!!!

so yeah.

i went to the tutorials in gimp but i want one that's a .jpg not a .gif so i can print it.

There's a lot of ways to make a banner, and everyone have their own style. The example you gave was pretty easy to make for me, since I use photoshop, but I also have GIMP, I believe its translateable too. Well here are a few tips

+ Position is very important, for a banner, try using only about 2--3 pictures

+ To do the coloring effect like on the banner [red parts], simply use a big round soft brush (defaults) and choose the color you want, red would work, brush it on the spot you want red, go to the Layers window and set the layer that has the red brush to Screen. simple nice effect

+ Try cropping and resizing different parts of a picture and place it nicely to your taste.

+ It all depends on Blending Options & Textures ! don't know how to use textures? Search textures on google or deviantart.com.. then you C&P that texture into the photo, set it to Screen, Lighten, etc until it looks nice..

+ BRUSHES !! brushes looks nice, you can download some at deviantart.com and if you dont know how to install them, do search on the web, theres tons of tutorials out there, but remember dont overuse them ! or else all the artwork will be is BRUSH SPAM

+ Text && Fonts matters, download some nice one at dafont.com, and install it (and again google makes the world go round if you dont know how to install them)

Save it as a .jpg. It will convert it automatically.
