You can make BW photos with color in them using these free online image editors. I list the service and give a brief description of how to do it:

Make the photo black and white. Repaint over items you want in color with color filter.

Splashup

Create a dupe layer Convert to black and white. Erase the parts you want in color.

FotoFlexer

Duplicate the layer and change it to grayscale Erase items you want to be in color in the BW layer, so that the color shows through.

Depending on the program -- they're all pretty similar -- here's the technique I use.

- Select the area(s) you want to remain in color

- Invert the selection so only the area you want in b/w is selected

- Convert to black and white or desaturate the area.
