I would like very much to make my brightly hued shirts a little less intense. Would I just soak them in bleach and water for a bit?

Thanks so much everyone!

  1. Yes, start with just a little bleach and monitor the shirt(s).

You can always add more bleach but you certainly can't takeit out of the water.

  2. The bleach will work, but make sure you have it diluted plenty, because bleach does weaken fabric.   You'll end up with holes if you over do it.  Also, make sure to keep the shirts moving in the bleach water, because you don't want to end up with a tie dye effect.  Rit makes a color remover (you can find it in the laundry aisle at grocery stores or wal-mart) that you may find will work.  I have used it before, and although it claims to, it doesn't completely remove the color from cotton.  I would try using it, as I think it's probably more gentle on your clothes that bleach.  Just don't let it sit for all the recommended time, keep taking it out and checking to see if the color is the way you want it.

  3. Bleach will for sure ruin it - it doesn't give a guarantee of fading the colour evenly.

Wash it two or three times, hang it outside in the sun and leave it there for a few days.  Then rewash.

It wont stop it being red, but it will give a lookl of being older than it is.

  4. The sun will fade it if you leave it outside for a week
