  1. probably the best way to make a scratching post is to take a skinny piece of fairly even wood then take 2  2 by 4's then join those together then take your skinny piece of wood then use screws or nails to join the base to the pole the take some carpet and staple it to the 2  2 by 4's and hopefully this helps.

  2. Honestly if you can't afford a scratching post from Walmart for $9.95, then you shouldn't be allowed to own any pets. Try to sell some of your government cheese you got this morning from the food bank and get the d**n cat some Friskies...

  3. I attempted to make one a while ago..but it wasnt that great so i went to the store. What i did was get wood and make the wood how u want the cat post to be and glue/drill the pieces together...then used some really strong glue and put carpet over it.

  4. Look at this link. It tells you how to make one easy out of scrap materials! Good luck!

  5. Try stapleing a peice of carpet on to a nice strong chunk of wood, and make a base out of wood to. I really hope this helps

  6. One square piece of wood = bass

    One 2x4 =staff

    carpeting

The square is a bass to hold up the staff use hot glue that way your cat cant catch his craws on any staples or  nails

glue the staff to the bass and then glue the carpeting to the staff. there you have a scratching post for your cat. Pick a carpeting color you like that matches your house or room.

  7. chunk of 2x4, a section of carpet, glue together, and nail it to a board.  get some carpet glue, since you don't want nails or staples to hurt the cat.

  8. Decide on the measurements of the post before beginning. The post must be stable, for if it tips easily, Kitty may find it to be unsuitable for continued use. The model in the picture measures 28" tall, and the base is about 18" by 12". The post needs to be, at minimum, the length of Kitty plus a couple of inches for her stretch.

Use a 4x4 post or 2-2x4 pieces attached together, and cut to the length needed. Set this aside for a moment.

The base on this model has two layers. The first layer is made by setting 3-12" sections of 2x6 side by side. Cut 2 sections of 2x6 to match the width of the first layer (16.5" as 2x6 are in truth 1.5" by 5.5"). Place these 2 sections of the second layer on top of and parallel to the first layer. Attach the top layer to the bottom with wood screws. This makes for a heavy and stable base.

Cover the base with your scratch material, something along the lines of Berber carpet or AstroTurf. Natural rope, like sisal, is nice, but takes a while to wrap tightly. A manual staple gun is perfect for this project, but roofing nails and flat tacks are also good choices.

Place the post in the center of the base. Attach the post to the base by using one s***w on each face of the post.

Cover the post with your scratch material, and attach as described for the base.

Attach a favorite toy, or something dangly and irresistable, to the top to entice Kitty to get to know the new post.

Now, if you want a double-fun, and double-duty scratching post, attach some old brush heads or something similar about Cat's Eye level on the post. These are perfect for some awesome Feline Facials!

  9. i wish i could answer this

  10. Well I thought the same thing but by the time I priced the wood carpet and all the supplies. It was allot less to just bye one. I got mine form www.petedge.com call them and request a catalog. 1800) 738-3343

the two I have for my cats are zw91422 and zw857 if you go to there web site and type these numbers in the search box you can see what they look like the first one was $59.00 and the second was $69.00

  11. good luck...................!

    Got one.

I have 2 cats but they still prefer scratching the sofas lol !!!

  12. carpet i think ...you can rap it around somthing like a piece if wood..or the easy way is just to by 1!!

  13. Pick up a scrap piece of 4" x 4" cedar post about 2 feet long from your local Home Depot. They will probably give it to you. Give it to the cat.

Forget putting carpet around it and you don't even have to stand it up. The cat doesn't care as long as you leave it in one place with free access for the cat.

  14. I'd try to find one of those cardboard tubes they use for pouring cement foundations (nice and strong).

Tack/nail/staple/glue it to a piece of plywood to give the simple shape of most scratching posts (add embellishments as you please).

Either use rope and a glue gun/staple gun/brad nails to create a wrapping of rope around the tube, or glue carpet to the tube and secure at the edges with staples.
