How do you make a chip, like in a Zip Zap or another RC vehicle?

I've been trying to learn a little about technology lately, and I wonder if just anyone can make such a chip. Also, how do they make the chips respond to the waves from the remote?

  1. Chips are made in fabs:

    Integrated circuits:

Make your own IC: my answer is use a microprocessor, other answer is to contract it out:

Most remotes now use small computers. They are available with interfaces for RF and IR. For your actitivy, I would look at the PIC site from my previous post, look at the microcontrollers with the RF module. There is enough reading there to keep you busy for a long time! Don't get intimidated, read a number of documents  slowly and you will gradually get an understanding of it.

You can also build your own circuit. You would buy chips that generate the radio or IR signal, and drive it with your own circuitry. This is not easy, its an advanced project.  Google "remote control circuit" and things like that to get more specific information.

    Good luck!
