How do you make a clarinet more flat? ?

So, my clarinet is always very sharp- so what should I do to make it more in tune?

  1. i have a clarinet and i noticed that w/ a 2 1/2 reed it sounds flatter


  2. You can start by trying to relax your ambiture.  Also, adjusting the mouth piece and joints by pulling them apart slightly will elongate the instrument and tune the sound flat.  If you were sharp, you would push it together (and mouthpiece farther down) and tighten your ambiture.

  3. Like the first answer said, make sure your clarinet is fully pushed together, but not just at the barrel, but throughout the entire instrument.

  4. First thing you should check is to make sure that the barrel is pushed down all the way. If that doesn't help, the next thing would be to switch the reed to a higher thickness. That will help cut down on the sharpness.
