  1. soft furniture. lots of pillows. hang rugs or corkboard on the walls. plus itll be so plush everyone will wanna hang out. (good thing itll be quiet eh?)

  2. yes i do you could put a a mirror up to make the sound bounce back to you so it wont go through or you could not make the stereo that loud. yea and you could not be that loud that would help.

  3. I've heard a few rumors in my days so here ya go:

    1) If you hang bedsheets or blankets with tacks to your walls, it takes away noise. The theory is in layers... the more layers the sound can bounce around in, the less the sound comes out.

    2) People who play musc will tell ya that pink stuff you put in attics (AKA - insolation) helps out more than anything! Only downside, I guess it makes it a little bit hotter so you'll need some kinda air source.

    3) Put things that produce noise in YOUR room on that wall. If the people to your right are making noise, put your TV, steroe, etc against that wall so that whatever is making the sound in your room is covering that coming from their room.

    4) Keeping your windows open will allow the sound to bounce around less and also allow some of the sound to go out the window. All sound bounces around the walls of your room, give it somewhere else to go!

    5) This isnt the nicest method but according to my friend, "It shut them up pretty quick!" Anytime you hear them making too much noise, run out and knock on their door then run back into your room. According to my buddy, they'll never know who keeps knocking and eventually keep it down cause it freaks them out. Like I said, not the best solution but nevertheless, one that works.

To be brutely honest though, thats part of the dorm life. Youre gonna run into all sorts of crazy things being in a dorm and it sucks! To me, its nto worth the money and effort so my BEST advice is get your own apartment if possible or just stick it out in mom and dads for a while longer. But in a good note, thousands amoung thousands of kids go through what you are everyday and they all make it just fine, so im sure youll be alright too!

  4. ...or you can buy quality sound-proofing material from your local hardware store. It will definitely looks better than sticking your pillows on the wall :)

  5. you can always hang some large rugs from the walls- that will definitely help keep the sound out or in!

  6. if you hang towels or are rugs from your wall they will absorb a lot of the noise. It will change the acoustics of your room.

  7. A towel at the bottom of the door helps a ton. Also, don't put speakers on the wall, put them in the middle of the room. If you're moving a couch in, put it between a source of noise and the wall.

  8. yes i would say the most feasable thing to do is to buy some area rugs and hang them on your walls.  also invest in ear plugs!   White noise machines and fans work well to drown out noise as well :)
