  1. The best way to soundproof dry line is to pack the gap between the two sides with insulation. this works in ceilings too. You can buy the insulation in shapes and thickness that are made to fit walls like this.

Another way which can be used alone or as well as insulation is to use fibre board rather than plasterboard (fermacell is one I think). This is much more dense - much heavier as well but deadens sound and can support a lot more weight so you don't have to batten to hang things on the wall so much.

  2. put either polystyrene sheets or roof insulation between the boards

  3. Energy Conservation Specialists has Insulating Paints that are Professional Sound Deadening (Proofing) too.  >>>>>Just look for Sound Deadening or Proofing Paints, >>>>>not the regular insulating paints on eBay.

They'll work to keep outdoor concerts quite, plus give you High R-value to reduce your Energy Bills.

I tried 1 or 2 layers and found them working better than other sound proofing products as foam.

  4. It depends on a number of factors but assuming that it is a party wall ( the dividing wall between two houses) position "miracle clips"( a nail like pin the base of which is a flat 50mm square with one side having a particularly strong self adhesive) at the manufacturers recommended spacing. Obtain  Rockwool type acoustic control slabs and attach  them to the pins securing them with the lock washers provided. You can buy the slabs with a pre-decorative finish or paper and paint the surface yourself.  The secret of sound proofing is to ensure every sq.mm is covered. If you can imagine noise to be like water. it just takes a pin prick and it will get through.

  5. If the wall is already finished, there are fewer options than if you are constructing a new wall. For existing drywall, you can install sound-deadening channels (thin strips of corrugated steel to create a dead space), then install a layer of Homosote (a sound dampening sheet material), and finish with a layer of drywall. The finished wall can also be covered with acoustic foam or even ceiling tile to further reduce sound reflection and transmission, making the room quieter. Be sure to seal any ductwork and pipes, if any, because sound can travel via those routes. A cheap door will also permit sound to pass through, so buy a good, solid door and seal the edges and threshold.

  6. To really make a room sound proof you need to isolate the wall from the adjoining space. You do this by building the inner wall separate from the outer wall. That is two sets of stud walls parallel and slightly separated. If the dry wall for the two rooms are on the same studs they will conduct sound through the studs. Covering the drywall with either sound deadening tile or egg cartons will further sound proof the room.
