  1. Try regrooving your lob/sand/pitching wedges. Pros do this all the time. There are a lot of golf club regrooving tools on the market. I managed to get one online at:-

Of course practice makes perfect - but regrooving my clubs definetly helps my stopping power on the greens.

    Hope this helps

  2. It requires hitting down on the ball to get the proper spin for it to check on the green, thus skipping and then stopping.

  3. you hit down on the ball creating backspin which causes the ball to 'grab' when it hits the green.

  4. You have to "pinch" the ball between the club face and the ground with a lot of force.  This requires a decent amount of lag (clubface "lags" behind the hands at impact) and a lot of precision.  If you mishit at all you will shank it and have no clue what's going on.  You have to make sure to strike ALL ball first and take a divot after you strike the ball.  This is what people mean when they say hit "down" on the ball.

I would say this:  don't even worry about getting backspin.  Concentrate on striking the ball pure.  Properly aiming, swinging and purely striking the ball is much more important.  Learn how to hit HIGH straight iron approaches.  You won't need any backspin with high approach shots as they will pretty much stay in the vicinity of where they land.  Play target golf and don't worry about "looking cool" with backspin on the green.

  5. Play the ball back in your stance. and tilt your wedge forward and swing through normal

  6. Backspin

  7. All the above answers are technically correct....I suggest a lesson or two from a teaching pro to find out how to actually do it though.

  8. Obtain a wedge with U grooves (EX: Callaway X-Tour) hit the ball in the center of the face, hit down on the ball, keep your hands ahead of the ball while having good clubhead speed. Also, use a soft ball (Callaway HX Tour 56/ Titleist Pro V1) It takes lots of practice but when you get used to it it makes a very versatile shot.

  9. basically....take more ground than usual

  10. dont top it

  11. hit down on the ball follow though and keep eyes on the ball all the way through swing
