I want it to be fairly big.

I want to make one for my rat until i can buy a real playpen for it.

What should i make it out of?

I tried 'rat-proofing' my room to let her run around, but its pretty much impossible, she always finds a way into things.

any one have any ideas?

  1. A good, cheap, permanent playpen I use is this one

The martins playpen I  thought was way expensive [like everything there]

and My rats can climb out of the Marshall playpens.

I use a old sheet for the bottom 4ft long on each side and 3 ft tall and[you'd be good with 2ft]

I use cat balls, boxes, sewn tunnels, waffle houses, pet igloos. Anything they can run in and out of or dive in [small box of shredded paper] and they'll have fun.

  2. Cardboard boxes, lego blocks, and toys are good objects to make the playpen. Rats can get into anything if they can fit their nose through it, so if you let your rat loose in your room again, block ANY holes you find, because it will find its way in somehow.

  3. i've heard you can take those big tri-fold display boards and connect them together in a circle or whatever using tape or binder clips.  boxes would probably also work, you could even make them a maze to play in maybe.

  4. That Playpen with Mat WILL NOT hold a rat.

    Even a baby one.

Its way too short, and they climb right over it.

Here is the playpen that i have.

And it contains all 5 of my rats.

    Its pretty cheap  too!

i have the one that is 15 inches tall.  Works Great!

  5. play pens wont really work. rats need to run around alot! try letting her run around your bathroom, theres usually notmany places they can go in bathrooms. also they can climb most things and jump high too so shell probs just be able 2 get out!

  6. I would go out and buy one, like the one I'm getting at Petsmart. It even comes with it's own mat, so your rat dosen't use the bathroom on your carpet or floor. Here's a link:
