I want to make a grapevine tree, what are the steps to doing this I already have the grapevines. Do you soak these vines in water or something to allow them to wrap without breaking.

Thanks

  1. I have never heard of a grapevine tree but here is a link that might help you figure it out:

Grape vines are very flexible and will grow up just about any structure on with just a little assistance.

I suppose you could have them wrap around a sturdy support that goes straight up and prune off any bottom shoots that form to have all your foliage etc. at the top of the plant. Keep in mind, however, that you want to get to the grapes (I assume?) to eat at some point - the higher up they are the harder they will be to pick and the more likely birds and squirrels will get to them before you do.

Whatever shape you want the grapes to grow in, it is probably just a matter of correct pruning and a few years' growth.

Check out some websites on the technique of espalier. Although I don't think they are traditionally made of grapes, the technique may help you determine the best way to prune for the look you are going for.
