  1. Wild hares, like most wild animals are fully capable of providing their own food and shelter in the wild. With that said, there are certainly many things you can do to help make their lives more pleasant. There is little you can do for their habitat, they tend to dig their own burrows and would probably not take kindly to any intrusion there. The best thing you can do is provide some loose straw in the yard that they could take to line their burrows with if they feel the need. Another good way to help is to provide sufficient ground cover to protect them from predators. Some of the more common predators for hares include wild cats and dogs, (as well as other large carnivores that may be in your area), hawks, foxes, and even some large species of snakes. Tall grasses and low-lying shrubs are the best hiding places for rabbits to protect them from predators, so ensuring that there are places like that will help keep your bunnies safe. The most important thing of all is food and water. Rabbits get water from the dew on leaves in mornings and after rain showers, so if it is particularly dry you could perhaps water the plants in your yard. You can also provide oats, hay and other snacks for them to eat. Fruits are popular with rabbits, but avoid any fruits that have a pit (i.e. peaches, cherries) or citrus fruits because these are unhealthy for rabbits. Bananas, apples, and grapes are usually enjoyed. Also leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach, and romaine lettuce. Putting any of these foods out would probably please your wild hares, but be warned; any food scraps may attract other less desirable animals.

Overall, I think that is the most you can do. As long as you are quiet and gentle around the rabbits, I am certain they will appreciate having such a considerate animal lover around. :)
